Background
In 2023 the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City started a project to reconfigure their on-site data center. New cage walls and enclosures were designed to replace conventional wall partitions and entry points. Along with the reconfiguration of the space there was a need to address the data center’s cooling equipment that had approached end of life. AAP was selected as the equipment provider for the thermal management portion of the overall project.
Challenge
US Engineering provided all of the construction work for the project, and Henderson Engineering designed the cooling systems to meet the requirements for the reconfigured data center space. AAP was selected to provide the necessary cooling equipment to serve the overall functionality of the space. As data centers must maintain critical temperature and humidity conditions 24x7x365, best of class equipment was absolutely essential for this project.
Solution
Per the project requirements, all existing CRAH units were to be replaced as well as the removal of abandoned humidifier and steam and condensate piping. AAP utilized the STULZ CyberAir CW precision air handling units for this solution. The CyberAir CW is a cooling system providing precise temperature control for data center applications. A total of 5 CyberAir units were deployed at the KC Federal Reserve Bank’s data center.
Benefits
The KC Federal Reserve Bank was able to modernize their data center thermal management capabilities with new state of the art CRAC units enabling them to operate at peak efficiency and reliability over their old end of life equipment.
